Long lasting exhaust...
I lost the tailpipes last winter, and it now has some other holes in it.
Makes me sick. I couldv'e spent $200 or so more and got a Bassani SS lifetime warrantied system.
Anyway, I really would like to save some money though, and I think my cat is still good. With two kids, I also don't have time to spend a whole saturday under the Bronco cutting the old system oout, and installing a new one myself.
Are there any muffler shops where I can get a system that will last more than a couple years?
Basically, who has the best quality pipe?
In general 300 (303, 304, 316, 321 and etc) series stainless steels are the most corrosion resistant and more expensive due to the higher alloying elements.
400 series stainless has more carbon and less alloying elements than the 300 series, however 400 series stainless is heat treatable to increase hardness, but need to go through a Passivation process to bring back its stainless properties.
Your Cat is probably good yet because most Cats are made out of 400 series stainless and only need to be replaced if they clog.
Hope that info helped.
I just thought maybe Midas now uses a cheaper aluminized pipe than other shops.

I got a Alumized steel true dual 2 1/2" out the back, glasspacks, tips and headers installed on my 74 F-100 for $240 7 or 8 years ago at a local small exhaust shop and its still on today. I used the truck as a daily driver through snow, rain and shine here in PA for about 5 years with no exhaust troubles.
The exhaust is showing its age now, but there is no rust through problems.
If you do alot of short trips the exhaust will not last as long if the vehicle warm ran for a while to blow out moisture trapped in the exhaust.
I now only drive 1 mile each way to work... So moisture doesn't have a chance to blow out.
Minekei just quoted $250 for a cat-back with a Cherrybomb muffler and 12" stainless polished tip. They say the Y-pipe and cat are fine. They looked fine to me also. This has a 1 year warranty only, not including labor.
I think i'm going to seriously look at a Bassani cat-back, as it wasn't much more expensive and has a lifetime warranty.
Anyone adapt this to their existing cat pipe?

A guy I used to work with lived half a mile from work and went through exhausts like crazy. He went to stainless to get more than a couple years out of a system. If it was me I probably would have rode bike or walked.

I found that Doug Thorley has a lifetime warantied system too, although it's not stainless. It's much cheaper than Bassani. It's about $270. I think I might give it a try,
