The dealership said I needed 2 new head gaskets and I had a broken bolt on the exhaust manifold. $2000 bill. How bad did I get ripped off? It now is not running on all cylinders. I took it back. What do you think? Kevin
Sorry, it's a 2001 Expy Eddie Bauer. 120,000 miles. 5.4 engine. The dealership has been good so far but they seem in over their head. I could be wrong. I took it in because it was ticking a little when I really step on it and I thought I had a hole in the exhaust manifold. Now, $2,000 later and now it runs rough. They were embarrassed about it but they've had it 1 week and I don't feel good about this. Thanks. Kevin
This sounds like botched job. I changed the head gasket on my 00 5.4. I changed both even though only one was a problem. The torque down pattern and the torque are very important or the head warps and leaks compression. Did it run rough as soon as you got it back or did you drive it for a bit? I broke a stud on the manifold to trying to get it off. They probably did the same
Let me get this straight, you just spent $2K on an engine with 120K miles on it....ouch. Didn't the dealership call with a quote before performing the work?
You need to expect top quality work from the dealership. Accept nothing less than a well running engine, which IMO you have paid for. Be nice, but be insistent on a satisfactory delivery. They should be the best diagnosticians money can buy so you accepted the "$2,000 to fix it right', so they need to make it right.
I had a head gasket go on my '01 Expy 5.4 at about 62K miles. I had my Ford dealer do the repair as it was covered under an extended warranty. Total bill to the extended warranty company was about $580. They did an excellent job, no problems since.
I seldom go to the dealer, because it seems that I almost always
am diappointed. If I push them hard enough they will eventually do
what I've paid them to do.I just don't think you should have to push
for a good job. They certainly charge enough.
