2000 EXE what causes the 4x4 light to flash?

Ok, For about 5k miles my 4x4 light has been flashing on my 2000 Exe. The truck runs fine and even seems to go in and out of 4x4 fine and pulls fine in 4 high (have not tried 4 low). I pulled all the codes and there were no codes at all. I then called the dealership and they said that it would be $300.00 just to tell me what is wrong. So my guess is that since the truck has 120k miles on it and it, and the light started about 1k after we had the transmission rebuilt maybe the fluid level is low. I crawled underneath and found one plug that says drain but the other plug about 1/3 the way up does not say fill. I felt around the top and could not find a higher plug. Is there only two plugs? Does anyone have any other ideas what could be causing the flashing light?

Thanks in advance,

Clint
