I have as you can see,a K/N fipk and it really seems to boost the seat of the pants fun. once I
dualed the exhaust out it was way more noticeable.
Plus the sound is incredible, sounds like a late
60's muscle car with the secondaries wide open.
Try rigging an intake for it(don't know if they
are available for that year) and get rid of the
stock silencer type air box. I'm on the road for
now but I plan to build an intake improvement on
my 86 conversion van when I get home. The stock
one on the van sucks in air from the rad. support
routes it all the way back past the fire wall then
it passes through the filter and back all the way
to the front of the engine. the intake changes
direction about 4 to 5 times before it ever reaches
the throttle body! no wonder the poor van accelerates so slowly.
Yep,your mileage went down probably like mine (can't keep my foot out of it)
It happens to the best of us. Actually I think
mine has gone up since stock ,I'm not 100%
sure but it seems like I fill up less often than
before.
Thanks for the reply everyone.
I also visit f150-online.com, over there everyone seems to like the velocity tube set up. Anyone have that set up, vs the K/N set up?
I also replaced my stock filter with the FIPK. I just have one question? My truck is a 4.6, when it's running at idle or slightly above, I get a hissing noise coming from the filter. This noise is annoying to me. Is this normal?
I'd be sure to check the hoses and clamps again, on everything. It sounds like you may have a leak. You can try putting the "black box" back in, this seems to stop the noise. This is the second of the two hoses that connect to the intake from the engine. One is the PCV valve hose, and the larger (3/4"?) hose. Cut a section out of that hose and position the black box inline between the throttle body and the intake. You may have to trim the box outlet on the intake side a little to clear the TB cover. Then use clamps on all four ends of that hose to make sure it's sealed correctly. If you still get a hissing noise once that is done, check the MAF to filter mounting gasket seal. Put a small amount of silicone sealant on both sides of this gasket, and check for the hiss again. Hopefully this will solve your problems. Good luck!!!,,,98
I used to be 65fordmidsize, I lost my password, so I had to re-register.
I had my MAF and filter off today for some cleaning and dress up work. When I put them back on, there was a high pitched whistling hiss coming from the filter area. After the engine hit the first "warmup stage" it stopped. It was on high idle when I had the noise, so maybe that's what you heard??,,,,,98
I put on the WMS Velocity tube. I like it better than he setups where you have an exposed filter collecting all the heat dust and moisture.

You will notice even more improvement from the WMS tube if you increase the fender intake size. Pull the filter cover part off, pull the rubber fender plug out, and use a piece of black abs pipe to increase the diameter of the fender end of the filter cover. This is done by trimming back the end where it goes into the rubber fender piece. You can do this if you want, and most say it has made a difference in the throttle response.,,,,98
What is a velocity tube and how does it work. I just installed a cold air kit built by Ractive and Iam quite happy with it. Made a huge difference in midrange power. Just curious though.
