What are the differences between a 2005 Ranger bumper and the older models? My friend wants to buy a winch bumper, but 2005 model is not listed. Primarily, the 97/98 Ranger bumpers. Thanks.
1998 was a major change over and many things for a 1997 will not fit a 1998. In 1998 they dropped the TTB, as an example.
The question should be
Will a bumper/winch bumper for 1998 fit a 2005.
Answer , most likely.
Will a bumper/winch bumper for a 1997 fit a 2005.
Answer, not likely.

This is because of the front bumper changes and mostly related to the airbags.
As far as I know, I think the only one making newer winch bumpers is ARB's bull bumper for the Ranger.
This isn't to say you couldn't kludge a 1997 winch bumper to a 2005, because the platform has stayed basically the same since 1984. Example: frame width?
Though I think you stand a good chance of the airbag not working properly in a crash.
Try calling www.jamesduff.com and seeing if they are working on a bumper or will for a 2005 Ranger.
I did a quick search for winch bumpers for a 2005 Ranger, you can find winch mounts which all say basically "mounts Behind factory bumper, preserving the vehicle's original look and style".
Which is just code words for "no way are we going to attempt making a bumper that works with the new air bag system".
ARB -does- design their bumpers to work with the factory air bag systems in Fords. So, I would go that route first.
