2007 or 2008?

Have to replace my 97 F350 PSD. What is the difference between the 07 diesel and the 08 diesel other than size. Will be hauling horses on weekends and an everyday vehicle on weekdays. Someone told me that one of them has a bug. Any input welcome!
Thanks

the 6.0 (2007) had its problems early on, but the 2007 should be a solid motor...the 6.4 (2008) is a new motor and i personally wouldnt buy a new motor the first year but people are saying great things about it

I'm in agreement. I wouldn't buy a 6.4 until 2010 at least. Let Ford work out the bugs first.

I've been watching to 6.4 closely and so far it has proven to be a pretty stout engine.

The one advantage a 6.0 seems to have is better fuel economy. The early fuel economy numbers from the 6.4 seem dissapointing, but that may also be caused by the newer USLD fuel.

At this point I wouldn't have any issues with purchasing either engine.

I've read a little bit about the new diesels from all manufacturers. The emissions control equipment on the 6.4 includes an EGR system that will recirculate up to 25% of the exhaust gasses and requires a much bigger EGR cooler because of this. It has a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust system with additional sensors to detect when the filter is starting to get plugged up. At that point the electronics add a post-combustion injection to raise EGT in order to burn off the soot trapped in the DPF.

I will say that the 6.4 does run a lot quieter than even the 6.0 does...
