Hello,I have a 1999 f350 supercab 4x4 with the 5.4 litre gas motor with 160,000 kms.The truck wants to wander a bit when I have a load in it.I don't know these trucks well since my last truck was a 1976 f250 4x4 that I owned for years. So do I need a complete front-end rebuild or should I look at something specific. This truck is totally stock. If I need to redo the front-end should I use aftermarket products to improve it.I want to keep the stock ride height.Any suggestions on what make of parts to use would really help!THANKS!
my truck does not wander without a load.I have had my truck about 2 years and put only 7000 kms. on it. Steering is tight, does not pull either way and have no strange noises.I put brand new 10 ply radial tires on it when I bought it.It was a Telus phone company truck (B.C.Canada) when new. There was hook-ups for an auxilury heater, T off the heater hoses going to the box when I bought it.I removed the hoses along the frame rails right away.I heard they take good care of their trucks. I am the third owner. Second owner traded it in for a dually shortly after buying it.
When you load it, are you getting a lot of squat in the rear?
How do your tires look? Are the rears bulging? (Your tires, not you!) Have you tried changing air pressure, maybe a little more in the back and a little less in the front?
see i have the complete opposite problem daryl. mine wanders too much without a load
Don't rule out the steering box as a source of the problem. There are a lot of threads on how to adjust the box to minimize steering wander.
As for DarylJWork, I have had my front end get real vague when I have put too much tongue weight or bed weight in the truck. That is why I am asking about how the truck sits with the load.
