Hi guys Im new here. like your website, very informative.
okay down to business....
I just bought a 79 f150 with a 302 and a four speed. I cant figure out what tramistion this is. I know its not the NP435 or any of the 't's i beleave, because to shift into reverse you have to pull handle up, pull it toward you, and shift up?
i've never seen a ford trany do that. can anybody help me?
hey thanx guys that link helped me out. What Ihave is the tremec T170F. Which is a side dhifted overdrive 4 speed with the shifter on the floor. Seems to be a rare option in the trucks.
Numberdummy: I know there are 3 versions of the 4 speed OD. Side mounted shifter, with shift rods etc just like the old toploader. (like mine in my '85 e150)
Then there is the SROD, where it has a turret and an internal rail on the left side of the case between the turret and the box.
And then the top shifted unit.
Aren't they all basically the same? 4 speed OD, based on old top loader design? I know there are car/truck versions, but are there other diffs too?

The RUG design and the Ford TS OD have different parts lists in the catalogs. I only looked at the cases. They are different. Parts lists: 2B for the RUG, 9A for the TS OD. Info from the 1980/89 catalog.
