I ditched the TTB for that reason alone! I could never keep the darn thing aligned with just a 2" lift and 33's! I have the solid D44 from a 79 Bronco, and other then breaking shafts from the welded front (done it with 33's up to 40's), I've had no other problems running up to 40" tires. Take a look at Monsterbaby's racer, how much hp is he runnig to that D44 with those 35 boggers? And his is spooled! I switched back to an open front and have no probs with the chromo shafts. It all depends on what you are doing as to what works best, and everyone's opionions are just that, opinions. So let's be easy on the personal bashing, this isn't Pirate ya know......
I agree…..
This isn’t pirate…but maybe if it was a little more like it we wouldn’t have the “normal” for here thread: can I clear 31” tires with no lift….kinds of questions…just a thought…
I agree….if he don’t “beat” his rig hard the ttb would be fine….chit if he didn’t “beat” his rig you prob wouldn’t have to worry about all the other problems with the ttb…maybe
no WRONG... i had a 93 F150 with a 6" skyjacker lift. i used it some to play in small holes around the house but nothing major since it was my DD. well one day i noticed my tires were wearing funny so i started to align the front end. well come to find out my frame up near the steering box on the engine crossmember above where the TTB drop brackets were bolted on was tearing apart from itself! there were no cracks or holes to begin with. that lift put that much stress on it. i had to pull the whole front suspension off, use a chain and bucking dogs to pull the frame back together and weld it up. then i welded in some reinforcement plates. lol then i sold that damn thing. thats why kubota said that!
it was a great truck up until that point. point being, you dont have to beat on it for that wonderful TTB to show its true colors.
ditch the TTB and save yourself lots of money and headaches down the road!
Damn!!....i had very minor damage that was easily fixed with mine b4 I ripped the ttb out, it was a 96’ with 6” superlift…… and I beat the living **** out of that truck…pretty much every day…
Ehh…I know that I would leave it in there if I were in his shoes but the best thing would be to swap it…
i had 4" ttb lift on my 85 f-150 with 33 mud kings...it was mostly a road queen with the occasional (once a month or less) mudhole....the bolts never stayed tight, frame started to crack around the radius arm brackets and the crossmember started cracking aorund the ttb drop brackets....this truck was never beat on
the drop brackets PUT TOO MUCH stress on the areas where they are attacthed....even if you weld the one brackets like it says to do in instructions
whoa whoa whoa... i have a 3 inch body and can fit 35s without rubbing.. its the question of offset rims... i have stock rims for now and i dont rub unless i try to turn it on a dime... which is pointless anyways.. my friend had a 92 f150 and had a 6" lift with 38x15.5x15 super swampers.. i have em in my backyard now, but they didnt rub.. as soon as i can muster the cash. its another 6 inches for me and them 38s. and dont tell the 300 I6 guys but its also gettin a TOTALLY customized brand new 460.. its gonna cost a lot but hey its worth it..
hell no.. im goin with a dana 60 up front and then something bigger in the rear than a 8.8" .. maybe another dana 60.. i dont have the need for rockwells because my ruck just isnt that big..
yes i do wheel my rig pretty hard but im not gonna ditch the ttb because it still is my daily driver and i need to use the truck every day. besides that im in the process of building a dedicated wheelin truck with all the usuals d60 front d 70 rear 460 on 40s etc i know you casnt beat a solid axle but the ttb will do fine for now until i end up tearin it off the frame in a big mudhole or somethin lol
if you wait your going to end up doing the SAS anyways and then you will have frame damage to fix as well.....get a group of your buddies a keg of beer (or two) and do it in one weekend....
