heres my problem i have a 74 f100 with a 302, for awhile it wouldnt let me shift it into 1st on the column, and it was having trouble taking off when u first started the truck unless u let it sit there for a minute, the other night, it started messing up bad, i have to hit 5000 rpms just to stay at 55??? my dad said my transmission filter might be causing it and i should replace it, what do you all think?
This here would an automatic type style of transmitter?
I think your linkage might could be wore out and you is in 2nd gear when you think you is in drive.
Watch out here as these is known to not engage park when they is wore, and that will cause the truck to want to roll over the nearest baby carriage when you park it on a hill.
Check that linkage, or have it checked if you're not confident.
the linkage is fine, it went in park fine and all that, its just we think the filter might be bad but could that cause it? the transmission still works it just takes 5000 rpms lol
Check for a vacuum leak.
Remove the hose from the modulator and check the vacuum and for presence of transmission fluid.
There should be vacuum but no fluid.
Check the vacuum line from the engine to the transmission.
Another possibility is the return spring on the kd rod has broken and the rod is in the downward position.
