Cleaning the engine ?

My new used F350 needs a good engine cleaning. I have never done this and don't want to harm anything while cleaning it. What should I use to clean with and what precautions to take to keep delicate parts from being damaged?

dont do it while the engine is hot, make a note not to spray it closely. If you're using low pressure, pretreat it all with some simple green, let it sit for about a minute and rinse it off, repeat and eventually it'll look great

So I can spray the entire engine off after soaking with simple green with a garden hose? Isn't there anything I can harm by getting wet? That just sounds too easy.

as long as its not hot, low pressure water doesnt really do any damage unless you have exposed wiring anywhere I suppose. If you have an exposed air filter, take it off and seal the intake tube.

its when you start using a pressure washer or high pressure water and get close to the engine that things start to tear apart

I guess my Tymar needs to come off, look at this pic and tell me if I have any hazards please.

that should be fine, I was meaning exposed wiring like if there was wire coming out of it's insulation, no that looks fine to me there...

one thing though that you obviously know, whats a tymar intake, and maybe... what is a ccv and 10k mod?

Tymar intake, CCV, and 10K mod I all have heard of but don't know exactly what they are. Tranny cooler, expansion tank, and hitches are in order first, then I can only do things as $ will allow.

So I literally spray the Simple Green on everything and spray with nozzle on mist?

I used a car wash on mine but beware not to get to close because that can cut wires hoses etc. Do it while cold and cover the intake (tymar or whatever). You don't want water in the intake.

10Kmod and fpr mod etc. check here then come back with questions. Tymar is a brand of intake and filter setup.

Remember I have the Tymar and filter set-up. Is there anything I can't spray with the cleaner and water? What about the alternator?

alternator is fine, I would take out the Donaldson filter and zip-tie a ziploc bag over the end so water doesnt get in there, that takes care of the Tymar

Why not just zip-tie a plastic bag over the filter?
