the truck just sold to someone else, thanx for all the replies and help...let me ask you guys this question...what would be a better value..an older truck with low miles, or a newer truck, withhigh miles??
Depends on what you want.
I loved my 7.3 and had very few problem. Great motor weak transmission.
I love the 6.0 with the smooth power, but they seem to be more high maintance. great transmission weak motor.
03, 04's (older truck) seem to be more problem prone, and more of a gamble. 05 up seem to have fewer problem.
I vote for newer truck higher miles.
If I were on a very tight budget, I'd probably buy the best condition 7.3
I could find and put a new CPS in the truck, old one in the glove box.
If you don't mind making a few improvement the 05 up 6.0 with studs,
HPOP mod, new fuel pump and EGR delete would be almost bulletproof.
With either setup I'd drive coast to coast to coast without worry.

i'm not sure i agree with this...
no way you can call the 6 liter weak. put a tuner and exhaust on a 7.3 and it will keep up with a stock 6 liter. i dont know of any 7.3's with the exception of maybe a couple monsters that are pushing over the kind of hp numbers we are without major motor work.

He is not saying weak in the HP/TQ, but rather weak in the dependability area in compairison to the much over rated 7.3. I'll give you my take on this as far as a 7.3 truck is concerned. Get blue book on what a modular (gas burner) truck is going for and add $2500 to the price and that is what a 7.3l truck is really worth. I would say $5k, but you will need a BTS trans which goes for $2500 to get the dependability of a 5R tranny in the 6.0s. In a 6.0 you are a lot less than $2500 in it to fix the known issues. Studs, head gaskets, egr delete, exhaust and an SCT and all you will see is 7.3's in the rearview.
I used to own an '04 diesel, and loved it so...I came across an '04 F250 cc sb 4x4 Lariet, 6.0 with 160k miles.
Alot of times folks would just want to drive a truck, and those miles just might be mainly running empty going down the freeway. Ask the seller what he used his truck for. What he does for a livin', those sort of things as they will paint a picture of the duty cycle that truck has been through.

i'm assuming that is considering you are doing your own motor work ??
because what you have listed is 2500 bucks just in parts, and i dont know of any shops around me that will do the studs/gaskets for less than 2000 just for labor... sucks cause i havent done my studs yet and really want to
im going to to try my luck on a new find!!! '04 F-350 cc xlt 124k miles, comes with a 4 yr/50k power train warrenty for $17.7 It looks like its in very good shape...what do you all think about the price??
