wheel studs

wheel studs

what do you have to remove to replace a stud on the front of these trucks . one stud has damaged threads.

It most likely makes a difference if it's 2wd or 4wd. Normally 2wd has a rotor with an integrated hub and the studs come through the hub. On 4wd the rotor and hub are separate. Either way, you usually have to pull the hub. I have on rare occasion been lucky enough to have sufficient room the beat the old stud out and start the new stud without removing the hub. The rears typically give you plenty of room, but fronts are a bear.

If the threads aren't damaged too badly, I would use a thread file or a die to try to clean them up rather than pulling the hub.

Common, you wouldn't spend 3 or 4 hours pulling a hub for one stud?

If you don't have a tap or file most tires shops will fix it for you fairly cheap. I wouldn't worry about just 1 bad one either.

Your problem is that in Virginia we have annual state inspections. I would not bother with one stud either, but it will have to be fixed before your next inspection. Like suggested, try to save the stud you have by using a dye to clear the treads because it is a pain to remove the hub just for that.
