bye bye contitrac's

Just had my tires replaced today went with the BF Goodrich AT's 305/70/18. Have to say it looks and rides much better. Tires fit perfect no rubbing fill up the fender well nice. I will try and post some pics later tonight.

What are contitracs? (as in brand, truck application, etc.) I take it they weren't good tires, so this way can avoid buying them..

they are contenetal brand tires oem on I believe 05-07 trucks with 18" rims. I had 9 of them on my truck in 17,000 miles. You can read many threads on here about them but I don't think you will find one thats positive.

Theres nothing like a good set of tires. They can really make the truck look and perform so much better. What problems did you have with your Continentals? I ditched my stock Generals at 15,000miles, had no problems with them though. I will look back for pics.

First set replaced by the dealer due to shaking the fillings out of your teeth. Took the dealer 5 tires to get 4 balanced. I had 16K miles on the 2nd set and the tread was about gone. contitracks are ok on dry pavement but other then that they are no good.

I've got nails in 2 of the 4 tires and I'm kinda hoping they stop holding air one of these days so I can have a good reason to get a decent set....

A customer of mine had a set on Contitacs on his 05' SD and I hear ya about the tread, they were the next thing to slicks.

Its too bad it cost over a grand extra to get a half decent set of tires from the factory.

ok I got the pictures in my gallery. The picture of the front tire clearance don't show it very well be there is atleast a inch or a little more between the tire and the liner.

Elyrain I will be glad to give you 2 more nails if it will help you out any.

DKF I have to say I really don't like any of the factory tires, I think ford need to get their head out of their backsides and start putting some tires on with some meat and leave the pizza cutters off them, you would think they would want to sell something that would last and look good not just the cheapest thing they can find.

I know this is in the Super Duty area, but I changed out the stock Generals on my '03 F-150 SCrew several years ago with BFG A/T KO's and went up 2 full sizes on the stock rims. Ride, look & traction were all much better. Woould definately do again.

On the Super Duty side, I have an '08 F-250 CC Lariat, loaded in the driveway for a "weekend test drive"...it has Continentals...LT275/70R18 tires that also, frankly look whimpy for this truck.

I've done some elaborate measureing and BFG A/T KO's in LT325/65R18 appear they will fit just fine, and look/traction I already know will be way better.

Anyone have this size on stock (no lift) F-250 yet?

Good pics birddog.

Ackattack looking at the size that they list in the BFG website and having just installed these I would say it would fit but if you got offroad they might be too big w/o a leveling kit. hopefully someone will chime in that has installed that size.

I don't have a lift or leveling kit. Factory rims are 18X8.

Is that a new size BFG or did you get 305/65/18? I've been looking at the same for my 05 cc PSD with 18", but the rears on mine require 75 psi and those are only spec'd for 65 psi. The 325 is even worse with an even lower load rating and 50 psi max. Here is the BFG:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=All-Terrain+T%2FA+KO&tirePageLocQty=

and Conti specs:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Continental&model=ContiTrac&tirePage LocQty=

both the BFGs suggest a rim width of 8.5 or greater too. By the numbers the 285/65/18 is the only BFG to meet the full spec of the conti., but those are a bit small in diameter. That aside, for some I'm sure they will suit the job fine. They look great birddog16. Are they noticably louder on the highway?
