I have a 78 f150 4x4 351m/400. I had all bearings and brakes replaced about 1 1/2 years ago. I noticed a percussive squeaking noise. It speeds up as I drive faster. It is pretty loud. I pulled off the front drivers side tire. When I spin the rotor it tenses up at a particular spot. It looks slightly warped. The disc rubs on the rotor slightly (is this normal.) I hear the squeak at a certain spot when I turn the wheel by hand (very faint though). Any suggestions. I need it fixed by Monday. Thanks
Sounds like a warped rotor to me. Don't know your money situation, but i would replace the rotor and have the other one turned or replaced also. Then on the warped side, check for rust and dirt on the caliper slides. the caliper may be sticking and not sliding which will allow it to rub the rotor and overheat it causing the warpage.
If you are going to do the work yourself and the caliper slides are rusty/dirty etc....clean them up with a rag and brake kleen and then use some caliper slide lube ( International trucks has about the best i've found for this ) ensure you only lube on the flat edges of the mount (not the caliper itself) and be VERY carefull not to let the lube get on the rotor or brake pad itself. An acid brush works perfectly to apply the lube evenly. Again, the lube can be found at any International truck dealership or i'm certain an educated parts person can direct you to a proper alternative. Hope this helps, I've done a lot of disk brake jobs on medium duty trucks (26-34,000) and cannot stress the importance of lubing the caliper slides. Very glad to see this was mentioned prior. Good luck.
*There is a major nationwide chain who does free brake inspections and will mic your rotors or may be able to find another issue if it's not the rotors being warped*
