Header Install Questions

I'm about to install headers on my 78 with a 400M.
1.Should I use high temp RTV?
2.Should I use lock washers on the bolts?
3.Should I use lock tite on the bolts?

Thanks

I would not use any type of RTV, use a really good gasket. Lock washers are up to you, I've never had the need for them, although you must snug up the bolts after a heating/cooling cycle or three, mine stay tight after this(3rd set, now coated w/Jethot). I don't think lock-tite is a very good idea either, were talking about 1200 degrees here, thats a lot of heat. Just one more thought on lock washers, different companies make special locks for header bolts, if your going to use them I would recomend going with ones made for this purpose. Headers also do not last as long as stock manifolds, therefore you may have to get these things back off at some point in time. I've never had anywere near the fight gettin' the headers off as compared to the stock manifolds! Chuck P. 79 351M(400) w/fenderwell exit headers.

I've also found that if you use a anti-sieze compond(high temp)on the gaskets, just smear it on thin but even, the gaskets will come off easier and can even be reused sometimes. Chuck P.
