Since I bought my 1980 bronco I have had this light noise which seems to be comming from the front left axle area. I have searched the entire area and the only thing I can think of is the axle it self on the inside at the pumpkin. Any other suggestions.
Hi Tom,
Since no one else responded, I'll give it a go. My 79 150 with solid front axle would do this at times, with the locking(parttime)hubs there are bearings on the inside of the spindle, mine were bad and allowed the axle shaft to "wobble" around inside the spindle. Also, my brakes had a very weak spring steel that holds the caliper in the "up" position, this would, at low speeds allow the caliper to clang as it would move against the slide on top. These conditions only made themselfs known at low speeds, once I was movin' above 15-20 mph the noise would "go away". Wish I had some other ideas for Ya, but thats it for now. Good luck tracin' it down, Chuck P.
Thanks after a little more looking I found just what you descibed. My inner wheel bearings on the left wheel are going bad at low speeds its more pronounced. I have not checked my caliper as of yet, but I will. Thanks again chuck.
Hey ,,,i have a 93 bronco and my hubs went on it,,,after they had gone i would have a clicking sound that sounded like it was comming from the axle,,,the way i checked this was moving very slow in reverse and having someone check to see if the driveshafts were moving,,,with 4wd, when the hubs arent engaged nothing in the front differential should be moving,,,well hope it helps,,,good luck ,,,
