85w140 oil

Advanced Auto has some sort of deal now for valvoline 85w140 for .95 cents a quart. Do you guys think that it will be alright to use, i would think that new oil would be better than old oil, even tho your supposed to use 75w140 syn. And with it being so cheap i can get alot of extras so i can change it a couple more times. For the price of the cheapest 75w140 i can get like at least 6 quarts.

I talked to the Advanced manager at the store and he said if i brought a printout of it, then i could get it for .95 cents.
Part Number- 825

He is talking about rear diff fluid. I stick with the 75w140 because thats what Ford recommends I assume there is a reason for it

i dont think the difference between 75w and 85w is much. the DIFFERENCE is the synthetic. some of these rear ends get hot. i have seen some with the paint burnt off the pumpkin. most have the LS rear end. clearances inside are TIGHT compared to 20 years ago. all that adds up to "you need synthetic". i dont use synthetic in the motor or transmission, dont think its necessary. i do use it in the rear end. i think it is a very good idea. not that it MIGHT be olk. to use generic, but guarantee the synthetic will work. 75w 140 is spec 75 w90 is o.k.--- as long as everything is synthetic. you can use the standard in the front end if you want, but 85w 140 is too thick for that.----- they are giving it away for a reason!

Ah, I figured as much... I just had my rear end done and they used only two quarts. Yes, it'll save some money, but it will also burn up your gears. Stick to what they suggest
