Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get my 77f100 short bed stepside w/460&a c6/3:89 traction lock to hook up?I'll be driving it on the street with an occaisional trip through the 1/8 mile.I don't expect it to be easy but someone who's got experince with this can make it less painfull for me.I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
A couple of ideas for ya, replace the unit with a locker, will pop, bang and chatter on the street but there is nothing better for gettin' the power to both rear wheels. Might look into rebuilding the trac-lock and adding a couple of more clutch plates(if they will fit)this will make it less slip and more likely to get both rears turnin'. Also, Auburn makes a really good limited slip unit that hooks both rears quite well, as with any clutch driven limited slip, it will wear out the clutch packs over time and most must have a friction modifier added to the lube. Get a set of "Drag Radials" or "ET Street Tires" these are a much softer compound that will allow you to hook up on the street. A typical truck tire is to aggressive with wide spaces between tread bars, you want as much soft rubber touching the ground as possible. You can add one inch of tire width over your rim width...so with an 8" wide rim you could run a 9" wide tire, also the taller the tire the more rubber touches the ground for added traction. At the track it is almost always sprayed with "VHT" (a traction enhancer) and will have enough stick to suck your tennis shooes off on a hot day! If the tires are not enough your next cheapest option would be to add a set of ladder bars or traction bars. Deen
