proportioner valve question....

proportioner valve question....
I found this wired switch on the top of the proportioner valve in between the two brake lines that is broken. What is this for? The brakes seemed to work fine before, do I need to replace it? Is it available? The truck is a 77 F250, 4x4, front disc. Thanks for any info.
