off topic but it is driven by a 7.3...no replies over on the transmission forum...
truck is 2001 F250, OK in 4 hi and 4 lo but cannot shift into 2 hi, lever will not go forward into 2 hi position
any clues?
thanks
just happened, all was well before.
put it in 4 lo to pull the horse trailer across a muddy yard, then could not shift into 2 hi.
will look at linkage tonight, mama bear had to drive it to work this morning.
You may have the driveline in a bind.Try jacking up an axle or at least one wheel
to releave the tension, then try to shift into 2wd.When I attended the ford trasfer
case class,we drove a ranger in 4hi,around in circles until it quit moving completely.
Then we tried to shift into 2wd,would not shift.Jacked up one wheel,it spun around
and shifted into 2wd,no problem.
does it have external locking hubs? i'm of the same opinion that the front driveshaft is in a bind. had same problem in '70 bronco and couldn't get it out of 4-low. 15 miles later, took wrenches and unbolted driveshaft and threw it in bed to get transfer case unlocked. my problem was the lockout hubs were trouble to unlock and wouldn't let the transfer case shift. might look at that.
problem fixed...linkage was seized from sand, salt etc.
this is mama bear's truck so only gets occasional 4wd use in winter
it has Warn hubs.
downright luxurious compared to my 93 F350 ex-municipal crew cab.
thanks again,
