I was out at our farm just driving around in a field, at our farm yesterday and broke the yoke on my rear drive shaft. not that big of a deal right? so i got out and took off the driveshaft, put it into 4wd, and continued on, or tried to anyway. those stupid automatic hubs wouldnt lock in. thankfully, we were only about 300 yards from the barn, so i went and got our JD 4020 to come pull it in. my girlfriend steered, while i pulled with the tractor. we made it fine for about 200 yards and where just about to come down a small hill onto gravel, when my lift blocks fell out of the rear end and my bronco came crashing down onto my new tires. a neighbor and i put my drop hitch in upside-down and lifted the backend up with the bucket on our tractor and slowly rolled it don the hill. then we put 2x4s in just to hold it up. we trailered it home today. i looked at my blocks and the front-top corner of both of them is broken off. have any of youguys ever seen this happen before. I plan on making new ones out of steel that will have holes for the u-bolts to go through.
The stockers or aftermarket? I have seen the aftermarket lift blocks fail many times thats why I only do leaf spring lift in rear any more. Sorry to hear of problems Hope you didn't rip truck up to bad. Those auto hubs suck I run em but I carry a chain also
my u-bolts were still intact, so the axle came up with the truck. all i have to do is reasemble it with new blocks. how much are springs for 6"s of lift?
Lifted spring packs run about $550. You should consider removing those junky blocks, and do a shackle flip. Either eith the Sky MFG kit or some stock hangers. Lucky you were on your farm, and not 40 mi out on the trail lost far from home on a dark, rainy night... JSM84
shackle flip is popular but if you plan to tow anything i wouldnt run them. i saw a new set of springs on ebay for under $400 they were either 4" or 6". I would run dual AAL before i would run blocks thats for sure.
I never have liked auto hubs. I have ran lift blocks on several diffrent trucks without any problems. They do cause a lot of axle wrap. Sorry for the mishap.
cfrives and i are going to make blocks out of 3x5 steel tubing and reinforce it with 1/4" plate. then we will drill holes for the u-bolts. so that way, nomatter what, they wont fall out.
stop, just buy dual aal's for the back. blocks create excessive axle wrap thats why your yoke broke. your talking $80-100 for the AAL's and its honestly worth it over blocks. imagine if you were doing some actual offroading and that rear end spit out on you, it could be deadly ya know. the time and work you put in for the custom blocks isnt worth it in my opinnion. check out 4wheelcustoms . com talk to chris
good news!!! i just got done putting my truck all back together, and it runs great. it is raining real hard right now, and i cant wait till tommarow to take it mudding!!!!
i just made the blocks. i see what you're saying though, ill have to look into aal's i want to put some in, but for now, at least my truck is driveable. its my daily driver, so i needed it fixed quick. not to say its done porly, i just needed to get it up and running asap.
quick question: could i get aals a and spacers for the front springs to make my 6" lift into an 8" lift?
