On 5 or 6 occasions, my climate control and display were inoperable when I started the truck. After I shut it down and restarted, everything was fine.
Yesterday, the same thing happened, but the climate control and display failed to operate even though I started and restarted the truck several times. I drove a short distance, parked, and shut down and restarted the truck...this time everything worked again.
Yep - had this happen to me on several occasions - found from someone on here that you have to "reboot" the climate control by turning the headlights on then off - don't ask me why, but it does work - mine has died 4 times..
The Electronic Air Temperature Control Head is failing. You can turn your truck on & off or use the headlight switch trick for a while. However, it will progressively get worse until the only fix will be to replace the EATC. If you are still under the 3/36K warranty take your truck in and have it replaced. If you are outside of warranty then you will have to pay for the replacement.
Your control head is going out. If the truck is still under the bumper to bumper warranty take it to you dealer. Ford has a TSB out on this and your dealer will change it out. They did it on my 2005 even though it was working when I told them about it. Don't wait till your warranty is out even though it reboots thru the light switch. If you wait for it to take a total dump the repair may be on you.
Anyone know how much this will cost if the vehicle is out of warranty? This just happened to mine and it was none too pleasant in the Arizona heat. Good to know about the headlight/reboot procedure.
If it is under warranty, certainly you should try to get it replaced.
However, my Excursion has had this problem intermittently for 4 years. Every time, all you have to do is turn off the truck for 5 minutes (until the accessories power goes off), and then re-start. All will be fine.
