Flathead County in NW Montana near Glacier National Park has several smaller old yards with plenty of old iron in them yet. Sometimes the old geezer owners here can be hard to deal with esp. if they find out your from out of state. Quite a bit of private iron behind old barns if you have the time, gas, and personallity.

Old Fords for sale

Hey man, I don't know if it's ok if I do it or not, but I have a few old Ford's for sale. They are just builders, but I have a 52 Ford Customline 2 door post car, and I have a pretty decent 53 Ford F100 cab.I also have a few misc.pieces? Please dont' run me off if this is not OK on the board.I'll just plead insanity!!

I wish I knew where these yards were, we just spent a week and half in the area for our family vacation. I'm sure my wife and kids would not have enjoyed the idea though.

I would have enjoyed going to check out the old junk yards rather than driving the Highway to the Sun in Glacier. I hate heights and could barely handle the road, my wife had to drive, I just hated the road. I didn't trust their idea of using a 4" wide painted stripe to prevent your car from plunging 1000 feet!

Hey man

This is Truxx1956, the car is pretty rough, but for $300.It's a good start for a rat rod.The frame is shot, I had planned to use a 1998 up Ranger frame, and adjust the wheelbase?

Last I checked, Karcz auto salvage in sobieski, Wi had a few older cars and trucks in it, but been years now since I've walked through. Back then I was more interested in the beat up camaros and novas in the junkyard then an old truck, so didn't pay too much attention to what the real old ones were. I Worked with the owner back in the early 90's at the ford dealership, and he also owned his junkyard, he was relation to the owners of the dealership. Boy, he was up there in age even back then when I worked with him, and imagine he had been working at the dealership for a long time. Think he got quite a few of his cars from the ford dealership over the years. His son took over running the yard I believe in the mid 90's and there went all the good deals I use to get also.

Perhaps unrelated, but around here, you'll hardly ever find an IH pickup in the jy's. Only cuz the farmers never part with their stuff. There's also a '51 2 door customline in TH for sale. Says "parts?" in the window.

Hi tacson!! I met him at supernat's in Knoxville and just by chance found him on 1 of my excursions scouring the countryside lookin' for 56 ford trucks. Lyle Daniels sounds like he has a good selection-at least 53-56 effies---and I think I saw more vintage tin in Ky and Tn and Va then the rest of the south. Southern Georgia has some super clean old tin also. I usually take a week or more on my treck to Florida every 6 months or so. Nothing better than stunblin' on to a nice rustfree 56 in the weeds!!! haha!!!!! Bill

Larry Lay is very reasonable!!

Hey guys, I've bought stuff from Larry Lay for years, and he's very reasonable, and a real nice guy!! I don't know about the other guy, but he's buddys with Larry, so I'd suspect he's a nice guy too. That guy in CA "Bob" from Bob's F100 parts has good stuff, but he KNOWS it.You won't find any real deals from him, but he does have good stuff.I've learned it's better to buy an F100 a little higher up the food chain, than to drag one up from the weeds and try to breathe life back into it!! I've had a lot of experience in this area, and I dont want to do it anymore!!
Just my 2cents worth

No **** Bob 'knows' hes got good parts. He's absolutely ridiculous. The first and only time I tried to buy some used parts from him I almost crapped my pants. I had a 1956 grille I and I wanted a 1953 or 1955. Without asking his prices, I asked if I could take a look at his stash. After looking at a few I asked the prices and I was quoted from $350 to $500. And the ones at $350 were absolutely torn apart...junk for anyone except a very experienced metal man. I offered to trade my grille, which was completely restored less paint, but Bob wasn't there to make the deal. I hear he'll make some good trades, but I cannot attest to this and there was nothing in those piles that was at the level of finish my grille was. Immediately afterward I asked how much a set of glove box hinges would go for, thinking since they weren't body panel they'd be reasonable, and they quoted me $65. Now I realize that these prices are probably subject to bargaining, but still these were some crazy prices. I hope no one is paying these prices. And this was all after an employee at sacramento vintage had recomended talking with him since he apparently wanted to get rid of some of his used inventory. In conclusion, I would recommend steering clear of Bob's for all parts, new and used.

There are 2 1/2 salvage yards around here. One is newer cars only and they crush old stock often. One is sort of older vehicles. Like late 70s-80s or so. You can walk around and pull your own parts. You cannot drive back there with your tools though. You better be able to carry the tools in and the tools and parts out.

There is one that is only open on Saturdays that I have not been to (the 1/2 LOL). I am on dialysis that day and have no clue what he has.

There are a lot of guys like Bob, guys who ask what most people consider ridiculous prices for the their stuff. I see them at the big swapmeets all of the time with big vendor trailers and the newest dually trucks. Someone must be buying from them or they wouldn't be around for so long. Just look at some of the prices paid on eBay. There must be a lot of people who would rather go somewhere that they know has the parts they need and are willing to pay the price instead of searching around and trying to find what they need. I can't do that, like most people, I would assume. I do a lot of horse dealing to get the stuff I have, or like my wife likes to call it "Junk". Man, that hurts my ears every time she says that!

I talked to a couple of the used parts vendors at the 06 supernats when I was looking for a tailgate. One was asking more for a slightly damaged used tailgate than I could buy a new one for at the vendors.

Needless to say I didn't buy it. I am glad now. I have a pretty good original 56 gate for a lot less.
