My truck is in the shop getting a transmission rebuild right now and I was thinking about getting a trans temp gauge put in as long as its already in the shop. When I started looking at gauges I figured I may as well get a pod to mount them in. Should I get a two gauge pod or a three? What gauges other than trans temp should I get? Boost, oil, rear end temp, fuel pressure? I currently dont have to much done to the truck (air filter, exhaust) but I want to do more in the future. I read something about doing the fuel pump regulator requireing a fuel pressure gauge, should I get that.
Basically what other gagues should I get besides trans temp, also. will a line have to be run from from the trans line to the interior, or are the senders electronic?
ill be doing (Boost, tranny temp,EGT's) when i get the gauges, and mounting below dash were the little pocket things is.
what gauges do you guys feel matches the stock gauge cluster the best? if a place were to install EGT, boost, trans temp. what would parts and labor/install cost normaly? because i think way back when, when i asked a shop, the guy there was tellin me about 450-500, and that was with (what he said anyways) was good gauges? i think all he had at the store there were Auto Meter Gauges.
I Think Auto-meter ultra-lites look best, very neutral silver face and very neutral silver bezel. If I couldn't do those, I would go to Stewert Warner White Face/ black bezel. The ISSPRO looks good, but I don't think they compliment the factory dash.
The price really depends on the guages, Stewart Warner is about $10 each cheaper than the Ultra-lites and Ultra lites run between $45 and 75 per gage. Some of the other series go much higher. The pods should be about $70 and figure around 5 hours to do a clean installation.
I got my Di Pricol "Optix" series gages from ITP Diesel, a site sponsor. They had a three gage package deal when I got mine. I chose the black faced gages with green LED illumination.
