Looks like it's been a week or so since 99EXP's last posting. I assume it's still limping along. If it's it only happening under a load (i.e. AC on and going up hills) I'm guessing it's one maybe two of the coils that are bad....due to the original moisture problem. Without a trouble code though, I'm not sure of the easiest way to determine which one is bad. My '99 EB 5.4L has a similar problem where the back coil on the left has gone bad 3 times due to condensation dripping from AC line. In either case, if you have a shop work on it go ahead and replace the plugs since at 83K miles you are getting close....I ran my first set to 85K and could tell a big diff when I replaced them

Just went through the same thing with our '01 Expedition. Turned out to be the plugs, not the coils. Carbon tracks were visible from the top of the plug to the base because of the moisture that got under the boots.
Replaced all the plugs and it is now running smooth again.

When my F-150 hit about 80K, the check engine light came on, and then, almost like someone flipped a switch, the engine started skipping/missing and lost about 60% of its power. When I gave it gas hard, the C.E.L. would flash, then remain steady. If I babied the gas pedal and ever so gradually got up to speed, then it wasn't as noticeable. Other F.T.E. members said I could go to Auto Zone & the read the codes for free. The code I got was #1 Cylinder misfire. I reported back here & everyone said to buy a coil & plug & offered excellent tips on replacement. Whether it was the plug or the coil didn't really matter, because for a few extra dollars more, I had insurance that the #1 Cyl. wasn't going to give me any more trouble.

***Plus I noticed the plug tip & coil boot weren't making any contact. The coil spring was ever so slightly swimming around the plug tip.

If there was a way I could have introduced more friction so the plug would remain in contact, then I would have been all set. But, when you figure how much of your time is involved, & for a few bucks more, I'll change the plug too.

That's just my $.03 (extra cent for inflation)

Hubby is afraid to change plugs cause of the plug blow out problem now. He says he will just change the coils.
