O2 Sensor

I have a 2005 Ranger Edge. I live in Virginia which requires your vehicle to pass state emissions tests. My truck failed I was told that my O2 sensor went bad. However, there are 2 sensors for each cylinder head. I am assuming that means 1 upstream and 1 downstream for each head right? They told me that it was my O2 sensor in the #2 bank; is that left? Also, how do you know if its the upstream or downstream sensor. Does anyone have any insight to this, or prior experience? The actual OBD code was P2272.

Bank 2 sensor 2 It would be the down stream one I believe it is on the drivers side but since I do not have my manuals in front of me do not take that as gospel. check a haynes or motors manual for bank designation I am not well versed in the 3.0 engines.

Thanks for your halp WTROGER, it was the downstream sensor. Which works out for me because the downstream sensor is about $12 cheaper and a LOT easier to get to.
