Really High EGT?

I am posting for a buddy of mine. He has a 04 PSD like mine and has been seeing 1300 EGT unloaded going up a hill.

He took it to the dealer Friday, and the tech said they cleaned the EGR valve? He said everything else checked out fine.

When my buddy got it back yesterday, no change, still running very hot EGT.

He called back to say no change. The tech's advice was to " just drive it" He has a trip today??

Just wanted to see if anyone had a opinion on the problem.

Thanks,

Not an expert, but those who are will probably ask you where the pyro probe is installed. So be prepared with that info. Secondly, when gauges don't give me the expected result, I want to get a second opinion by swapping out the pyro and guage.

Like I said, it is not mine. But I would assume the probe is on the driver side manifold.

It has been there for years. I thought of a defective probe also, but he says it acts normal. Like seeing 90f on first second of start up and rising from there.

Thanks,

It sounds like a bad Probe... If ford didn't see anything in Diag then I don't see what would rise the temps that high.. It's not hot enough here right now for us to cook.. I'm seeing 700* Pyro at 70mph going down the Toll Road.. I would say swap Pyro's and see if it changes.. It could be just going bad since it's been there for years.. They don't last forever and they do tend to collect carbon as well..

Is he running a tuner/module? If so then he could hit 1300 very easily going up a hill. If it was 1300 on stock programming I might be a LITTLE concerned, but that's not hot enought to hurt squat unless he keeps it there for a LONG time--minutes not seconds. I'd bet it probably cools down very quickly when he lets off a little. Also, how fast was he running and how big a hill and when was the last time he serviced/changed his air filter? I know how much crap can build up around/in Austin with all the kaleechee (I don't know how to spell that white dust that's everywhere) and it can plug a filter enough to cause a temp rise. Is his fuel mileage down also?

True but even in Austin, we don't have too many nasty hills that would prompt a massive spike in EGT's like that.. Not even in the Westlake area of Austin are the hill grades steep enough.. Even loaded I don't think the EGT would spike high enough with our hills here..

Eric if you need any more help you got my cell, gimme a call.

That's why I asked if he had a tuner. I can see 1500 on flat ground with no load. 1300 with a trailer would be no problem in seconds, but 1300 isn't a real problem anyway. Call Matt and ask him Storm.

the 1400* I was pulling with the Ultra Comp Street was Pre-Turbo.. So I imagine Post Turbo it'd be up in the 1600's? Not sure of the % increase pre to post is.. Hadn't looked at it..

first of all guys your temperatures are LOWER post turbo, you lose about 300 degrees in the turbo....
for you to hit 1600* post turbo, you would be almost 2000* pre turbo...
i dont buy it
