351????

Any of the 351s can be built into a rugged reliable and powerful engine. It's just a matter of money and parts availability. There are vastly more speed parts available for the 351W and a lot greater base of shops that know how to build them. 351Cs aren't real common anymore but there's still a fair amount of stuff available for them. The 351M had the misfortune of being produced at a time when performance was not in much demand and not a lot of speed parts were ever developed for it. If you're willing to take on the challenge of developing custom parts, you can still make one roar, but if you're looking for bolt-on stuff, stick to the W.

351????

Without changing transmissions (or bell housing if 4spd), you are stuck with 351M/400 or a 429/460. I you opt for the 351M, I suggest installing a 400 crank and pistons. WAY more bang for the buck! Clevelands and Windsors wont bolt up. Just a suggestion!
