oil pressure????

oil pressure????
So i just got done installing my new timing gear on my 88. I primed the pump for a minute or so. Turned the key and it popped right off. Problem is, no oil pressure. kept running nothing sounded terrible then all of a sudden my lifters started rattling. i looked in the oil fill hole and i could see there was no oil upstairs. So im a little perplexed to say the least. I installed a new oil pump. the only thing i can possibly think is a blockage somewhere from bits of where my old cam broke (Fiber Composite, thank you engineers) or the oil sump's arm that connect to the mains was broke, would that let the sump suck down on the oil pan? i guess ill pull the oil pan off, which by the way is very exciting with the engine in the truck, never had done that before so that was a nice new trick i learned off of FTE. So if anybody much older and wiser has a idea let me know. Thanks
