i had another guy quit so its back for me to driving one of these trucks. why dont people value there jobs no more?? i mean i pay good $125 per day 6 days a week and there home by 6pm. easy job rite? so i thought, but this guy says its to long of a day for the money.hmm let see 10 hrs for 125 thats 12.50 an hr plus ins.i just dont know what to do, i dont think ill hire anyone to replace this guy ill just drive the truck myself and if the other guy quits ill sell the other rig.sorry for the rant but i find it hard to believe in the times we are in that folks would just up and quit over somthing stupid
set rate. some times its only 8 hrs a day and they know this before they hire on no tricks. most sat's till noonish.so if they dont like they pay why do they waist my time and theres it just dont seem rite
We had some drivers quit on us. It's not like we didn't see it coming though. I guess their feelings are the higher ups don't appreciate them. Then again, one driver who no one got along with just wouldn't quit. He ended up getting fired, but someone went over his head. Then he got fired again 3 weeks ago.
If you have truck and trailer type truck driving business wizzard, I mean no offence to you, but I wouldnt drive for 12.50 cents an hour either. I dont know what the rates are like where you live, and what kind of trucking company you have either though.
I know I have turned down jobs that paid 20 bucks an hour, because i knew I could find one that paid more, and i did find one. Its also in the oil patch, and I do know that makes a difference too.
Because employers in the USA have shown wide spread contempt for workers and consider them disposable. Especially people such as truck drivers.
People want jobs, good paying jobs. At $12.50 an hour that person can barely support a wife and two kids living in an apartment and is living close to the poverty level. Most fast food places around here pay $10.00 per hour. You want to pay a truck driver $12.50 an hour straight time and expect a life time employee? Sounds a bit unrealistic in my opinion.
I work in construction(heavy equipment operator) and dump truck drivers make anywhere from $15. to $18.or more an hour. Work 40 hours a week and anything over 40 is time and a 1/2

That's about right here also. And with the cost of living so high up here (as everything has to be shipped in) That's about poverty level. Unless I could make at least 18 to 20 per hour in a 60 hour week with overtime we where still getting food stamps cuz of the kids.
My no experience helpers got 10.00 an hour in "89" the mechanics got 20.00. Plus performance bonus. Hard work, but good pay.
My son-in-law got his CDL about three months ago and got a job with an outfit out of Tennessee, spent the last three months on the road and by the time he figured his hours and road expenses he was lucky to be making 7.50 hr. took the job to get experience driving. He was just hired by a company close to his house, starts at 6am is home by 3pm, 13.00 an hour for the first month, then 15.00 with regular raises as he gains more experience. No cost to get to work, no road expenses, overtime at time and a half with benefits. After two years my daughter will get him in with the company she works for. Union shop with top rate and great benefits. It's the American way to move up and improve your situation. I'm sure you don't have two trucks running because you just want to make 125.00 a day. You want to keep the talent, you gotta pay them. What other incentive do they have?
Yeah, when you look at it either way, 12.50 per hour, isn't a whole lot of money for a 10 hour day. Neither is 125 per day for 8 hours. Heck, that's close to what the government takes in taxes from me daily.
As for them quitting over something stupid, well, how long have they been driving for you? It could have been a situation where they just talked themselves INTO working for you to see how well they could adapt to 10 hour days and/or 6 days a week. 4 10's is hard enough, that's what I work. 5 10's is doable, for maybe a couple weeks. But put 5 10's and another 6 hours on Saturday, the guy doesn't have a home life. He's gonna be cranky with his family. The wife and kids are gonna notice a difference. He probably quit to prevent going down a road him and his family doesn't want to go. So you can't really blame him. And even if you were to pay him double, $25 per hour, you'd probably be able to keep him for a couple more years, but it's gonna be a strain on the family.
I guess what I'm getting at is, you can't buy time.
I know OTR truckers are gone days at a time. But that's the lifestyle they choose. Town drivers home every night is the same as an office job. They don't want to be gone for days. They want to be home every night. But they don't want to be so tired that they can't enjoy their time off.
I'm not sure exactly how the law works for drivers or in other states. But around here, anything over 40 hours is considered overtime. It's illegal to pay straight time for anything over 40, and employers can get in big doo-doo if they do.
