Update on the 6.ol stuck on I-5 OK so made it to ford...they said it has a egr cooler leak right into the cylinders....the egr valve is carboned all up and appears to stick...the egr valve he want to replace since they say they just come back after cleaning....its 2400 bucks!
This is why it was would only idle....
You might consider what I found with yours....It could be related to water in the egr cooler...
Just got back from the diesel shop and the tech ran the contribution test and found injector 5 to be lacking by comparison - his words were "it is showing a hard miss". Also, the tech found the following codes with the scanner (P0275 - related to # 5 injector / cylinder) (P0401 - EGR {probably stored from the few times I disconnected the EGR valve}). All engine compression tests and other diagnostics checked out OK for now.
Just thought I would drop a line to all who are interested and / or having similar problems as mine.
Before I proceed with the #5 injector replacement, do any of you think there is an underlying issue here or should I just go for the one injector replacement and hope my problem doesnt reappear.
bhill2625--unless you have just a tremendous amount of miles on your truck I see no real reason to change any but the bad injector. If you're just driving and not going to do any mods/upgrades then the stockers can last a long time. They are about $250 or so each, so consider that also.
