i have a 1979 F 250 having problems getting brakes for it. Pretty sure it is a dana 60 but none of the brakes will work have the rearend tag it has 4 10 D8TA5B 60 39 01-4LS if anyone could help i could drive it again thanks
Any time you mess around with brakes its always best to bring the old ones with you when you go to the parts store. Drums have different widths and whenever I go to get brakes it seems like they give me the wrong ones unless I bring in the old parts and match them up.

D8TA-5B should read: D8TA-SB = Dana 60 / 4.10-1 / Limited Slip
Rear brakes shoes are 12" X 2 1/2" The wheel cylinders are 1 inch in diameter.
The rear shoes are identical 1965 - 1989. Try a better parts source like NAPA.

I got my rear shoes at Napa, and they were a correct fit plus they'll have all the other stuff you need too like seals, axle flange gaskets and new lock washers for the axle nuts.
i took the old brakes with me both napa and carquest(rodefelds) neither one can match them and i know every thing from the 60's till like 98 or 99 when they went to disk all took the same shoe but for some odd reason mine are different the housing is marked as a 60 does dana have a sight that you can tell any thing from as to what they could be i know the brakes are 12 by 2 1/2 but the holes are wrong and to small even the self adjuster looks odd to the other two dana 60s i have this one the hubs come off without pulling the axle so i am pretty sure it isnt the original and is a newer one thanks again
I have a 75 250 with a D60 rear and have had no problem getting parts from my local Napa, Checker and Oreilly...and I have replaced all of the hardware (shoes, cylinders, springs, pins, adjusters...everything!) on each wheel. If yours is unique can you take a couple of pictures?

Same here for my 74 F250. I was able to buy new drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, adjusters, springs, and keepers from the local Advance Auto Parts store?
would a dana 60 from a chevy or gm be close? try to have them look up a chevy dana 60 and see if those brakes are correct. i think the axles are close, maybe its been changed over time.
