Jacobs Ignition

I have been told that Jacobs is better than MSD because you dont have to do anything to the existing wireing harness.
I have been looking at their Pro Street one is it worth buying i am going to build a 400hp 475tq motor for this truck.

Thanks
Curtis

Whoever told you that of full of shiiiiiiiii...

Anyways, my MSD had only one splice, into the original factory coil +, to tell the box to turn on. I got the adaptor to plug right into the original distributor, hooked up the new coil wires, the battery cables, and it was done with the wiring. Very simple, VERY effective ignition. I have the MSD-6T, ment for circle track, but water-proof and more vibration resistant than the 6A, and less expensive than the off-road version.

Have you ever installed a jacobs box? I can tell you like your MSD, but I have a friend that loves the jacobs box. Says it was the best performance add on he put on his vehicle (including alm. heads, headers, ect.)

No i haven't personally used the Jacobs, but I do believe the MSD was also the best improvement I've ever made to my truck. (aside from rrebuilding the engine that only ran on 6 or 7 cylinders).

I also have a freind that LOVES his Crane Fireball (HI-6?). Basically you can't seem to go wrong with any ignition upgrade, they're almost ALL better than the Dura-spark, whos only guarantee is that it WILL fail.

I have had a Jacobs for at least 6 years and still think it is the single best performance upgrade i ever did. I'm getting ready to build another engine and this time will go with a MSD 6, just for variety. It sounds like either one is a winner. The one thing i will say about the Jacobs is it allows you to leave all the existing stock components in place. By rearranging the connectors you can run the Jacobs or convert back to stock as a backup in case of trouble. This is very handy for having a complete backup system just in case. In the six years i've been running the Jacobs it has performed perfect.

I did that same thing with my MSD. All I have to do in case the MSD fails is plug the distributor pickup wires back into the Duracrap harness, put the original coil wires back on, and disable the MSD. (undo the power wires). I don't know how it could be any easier.

I have used MSD's in several trucks with no problems. A few years back, Super Ford did a dyno test of all the "6" level ignitions from MSD, Crane, Holley, Jacobs, and Mallory. All were pretty close but the MSD gave a consistent 3-4hp advantage, that sealed the deal for me. If I'm going to spend the same money, I may as well get the most performance.
