Intermittant Idling Issues

I've started having some intermittant idling issues with my 2000 Exp. Some times it starts up and runs fine, other times it won't idle and I have to two peddle (gas & break at stop signs) it for the first 5-10 minutes of driving and then it idles fine. I had the issue about a year ago and my mechanic replaced the fuel filter and ran some kind of treatment though the fuel system and it ran fine for the next 8 months. He said there was water in the filter but I think it's kind of odd that the problem has resurfaced and become more prevelant. I've read some other threads out here about IAC problems but after driving the vehicle for a bit the problem goes away so I don't know what to think. Any suggestions?

idle air control valve is more then likely the problem it will get carbon buildup in it. you can take it out and clean it or just replace it. mine did the same thing i cleaned it out and has not been a problem for over a year now

+1 on IAc valve. It's now available at parts store (at least at Autozone last time I checked). It's inexpensive and easy to replace. Get a 5/16 rachet wrench to make your job easier because there is no room for socket wrench for the bottom bolt.

Good luck.

Iac

Yes I agree---the IAC is probably gummed up---if you want you can clean and blow out with carb cleaner---if it improves then go buy one---if it doesn't improve it may be something else---leaky PVC hose---or some vac leak.

But i'd bet on the IAC--If you are over 80K then I'd say it should be replaced anyway as a maintenance item---about the easiest thing to do on these engines and well worth the result

Hope that's your prob
