I have read alot of questions and answers concering transmission temperature readings. My question is to anyone that has an Edge Evolution or something similar (reading off of the OBD II, not a mechanical gauge). My truck stays in level 1(economy/towing mode) most of the time. What temps. is everyone reading when running around town with no load. My transmission has 149k miles on it, and I see temps as high as 208. When the temps get around 200 or higher is when I have been running around town for more than a couple of hours stopping and going. I do live in SE Alabama with temps in the high 90's. I would think that the mechanical gauges will read alittle different depending on where the sensor is located. I just want to learn more about my truck that I have only owned for about 6 weeks. I have alread put a complete PSD in it already. Thanks ya'll.
I live on MS coast, HOT, I installed a trans temp guage, drilled and welded a bung in the deepest part of the tranny pan. Pulling my toy hauler on the hwy its usually 180, around town pulling the trailer Ive seen 215, unloaded around 140-160. I have a tranny guage from banks, it dosent go into yellow until 250+! Im comfortable pulling as long as its below 200. Ive got 120K on my truck and been pulling since day 1, same trany changed the fluid 2 times, no issues.
Should I be concerned that I am hitting 200-208 (sometimes, usually stays around 150-160) in town with no load? I was pulling a 20' enclosed trailer loaded down (5-6k lbs) last week in town and never got up to 200 degrees. Being that I did not know the maintence schedule on my truck I went ahead and had all fluids changed, and the filter in the tranny.

What is the ambiant temp outside when this happens?

Usually around 94-99 degrees. As I stated earlier my tranny temp stays around 150-160, but if I continue with a bunch of stop and go traffic like you get in town it will climb up to the 200 degree mark. If it does get around the 200-208 degrees it will stop there (I can continue driving without it getting any hotter).

I posted that way too early....
When the ambient temps are higher in stop and go traffic it is totally normal for the temps to go be a little higher. This happened to me in my f150. I freaked out the first time this happened to me...
How was this reading taken? From the factory trans gauge, or aftermarket gauge.
