trany temp. sending unit

trany temp. sending unit
I have a 00' f-350 7.3l 4x4 208,000 mi.. I want to add a trany temp. gage, but don't know what line to put it in. One line is torwdes the front of trany and one is to the rear?
New to ford and diesel.

Or, you can remove the pan, drill hole in deepest part of pan, weld bung, screw it in there. I read alot on where to put the sensor, alot of people feel you get a more accurate reading of the fluid Temps in the pan, putting in the side of the tranny you end up with overall tranny temp! The choice is yours.

I asked the same question, Fluid temp was the answer, thats why I opted for drilling and welding, ultimatly your fluid temp is what causes/viscosity issues which leads to tranny failer. I think the overall tranny temp can be missleading, The tranny is bolted to the engine, After some running time I have found that the tranny body temp has been higher than the fluid temp ( I used a calibrated u/v temp gun). Its the fluid that you should be worried about. Im sure others will chime in with their thoughts and reasons. Thats what I like about this forum, lots of opions and other peoples take on situations! Some agree some dont! Thats one of the many reasons I love this country, FREE SPEECH!!!!!!!!!!
