A little help?

with my 351 i have a 750 cfm hooly carb and an rv cam. it is in a 67 ford f100 ranger xlt. my plan is to take that block out, put a performance intake 1500 rpm, roller rocker, roller lifter, roller cam, performance wires coil spring, and take that block and put in it my 67 ford mustang. im going to put detroit lockers in for the rear, also put a shaker ram air on the hood, and i want to put a new trans.

im only 17 and im not to knowledgeable about all the racios. i was wondering what kind of trans
should i get for drag material, i was thinking of a 5 speed standerd but what is better for drag?
standerd or auto? also what are the racios i should get for the cam and rockers and lifters?
i want suggestions too!

A little help?

Are you going to be heads up racing or bracket? If you are looking at bracket racing then you will want to go with an automatic for sure for consistency since that is how bracket racing is done.

If all you will be doing is heads up then a standard may get you to the end a bit quicker than an auto although a well built automatic won't be that much worse. Also with an automatic you won't have to worry about missed shifts which I guarantee you will make you slower than an auto.

As far as cam choice is concerned you need to look at several things. Will this be a race only car or will it also see street duty? How much of each? This will dictate cam duration as well as compression ratio. Higher ratio means more expensive high octane (or additives) gas.

You need to create a plan for the car and determine how quick you want to go in the 1/4 (or 1/8) then go from there. What intake are you referring to, a Performer RPM? It is a good choice for a street strip car. The intake, carb, ignition, heads, exhaust, camshaft, etc. all need to be planned together to get the best package for your intended package.

Above all, remember that bigger is not always better in cars that will be run on the street a lot. You can end up with a bear that you won't enjoy.

Good luck.
