I have a couple of questions I just bought a 1986 f150 4x4 I go offroading once in a while but when I do go I really go offroading so I want to know if I should get a locker in front or should I weld it up. another question what locking hubs are better mile maker or warn
If you are hitting the trails ard enough to require a locked front end, then you may not want to keep the TTB. TTB and heavy off-roading do not exactly go hand in hand.
a locker would be just fine....depending on you tire size and how hard you "really go off roading" i would look into a SAS
the hubs is a matter of personal preference....ive had just about them all and i like the mm over the warn supremes anyday....really just b/c they are easier to turn....ive never broken any hub just axles and chit on the d44, i dont know if strength of the hub is a factor for you or not...
According what kind of offroading you do. I like the mud. My 88 F150 has seen a lot of abuse and I have had no problems with the ttb. Granted when I break it I will swap in a solid 60. Mine has 4.88 gears with a trax lock in front. I like how it performs. I would never weld a front end. That is asking to break things.

rbloodhound thats a nice truck I have one the same year and I also like mudding and sometimes sand what kind of locker would you recomend and how did it do without the locker
I have a trax lock I bought from bronco graveyard. Cant really tell because the truck had factory limited slip front and rear. I installed the trax lock in the front because I had to change the carrier when I changed out the gears. I think that a 4x4 should have all 4 tires pulling. When ever I break the front or rear Im going to upgrade to dana 60's front and rear.
If you can afford it, go with the Detroit Locker. If it's too steep for you, take a look at a lunchbox locker such as the Aussie Locker (around $230 for a Dana 44)
