Hi all,
I have a 4.6 2001 F150. I went through deep water in a torrential downpoar yesterday and my engine almost immediately started suffering problems. It seems to idle OK now, but it is running very rough at drive speed. My service light is now on constantly. I had it scanned and the readout says the system is running lean. Any ideas as to how to fix it!! I could really use some help!
water may have damaged some of the connectors for your 02 sensors. had that happen to me once, was out down a dirt road and had to cross a small pond, and next day my truck ran like garbage. found out that the o2 sensor was bad.
Turns out my system was running "lean" because water got into the spark plug boot and was causing misfires in three of my cylinders. Pulled the boot out and sprayed with WD-40 before using compressed air to dry it. Seemed to fix the problem but then it started again. Turned out the misfires fouled the three spark plugs, so I replaced those puppies and she's running as good as normal...Though I still have a hesitation sometimes when accelarating hard.
check ur oil to ensure no water got into crankcase/// just threw a rod in my bmw due to this since we have had rain and more rain here in corpus and I got into high water and did not know water got up into crankcase...just a thought
