Engine pulleys, and Check Engine Light
I just passed 76k in my 02 V6 last night. This mornin I hopped it, cranked it up, had some noise comin from under the hood, intermittant squeeking, but it was happening pretty often. At about 25k miles I had problems with the tension pulley squeeking, a few applications of WD-40 , no more problems. I turned off the AC, the noise continued, not the AC pulley or compressor.
Sounded to be coming from the middle to left side of the engine facing the truck, couldnt pin-point it.
On the way into work, the check engine light came on. Scheduled a time to take it into the shop. When I left work to take it to the mechanic, I did notice that within a half mile or so of being down the road, the engine had warmed up to its normal temp (truck had been sitting for over 6 hours)...normally takes 5 minutes or so.
Anyways, talked to the mechanic, he said something about the grease inside the tension and idler pulley being gone, and the pulleys needing replacement or else they may seize up.
Now quite frankly, I have never ran across an issue like this, or ever heard of one...and my 71 Stang still has original pulleys on it...my 92 Ranger had 130k miles and original pulleys when I sold it, even if the tensioner pulley squeeked to the heavens.
Any help, advice etc?
And would screwed up pulleys cause anything taht would throw a check engine light?
As for the CEL, I don't think that there is any connection between the squeeking and the light coming on. Best to get the codes read to see what is up there. Good luck!
