I went out to Bucks and managed to find 2 of 3 missing pieces required to make my intake work. I got them off a late 80's Cougar since I realized that Crown Vic parts are incorrect. Ford changed the throttle body linkage since it's on drivers side instead of the passengers side. Gotta love Ford Interchangeability.
I now have coolant piping for my heater and intake.
Here's the difference between the Cougar/Mustang linkage vs the Explorer. The explorer one is facing the wrong way and has no connection for my AOD transmission.
Here I just bolted it all together for mock up and storage purposes. As you can see I still need to buy an aftermarket EGR spacer but haven't received shipping cost replies from people on E-bay. It's almost like they don't want to sell it.
I bought my intake from a guy just outside of Saskatoon. He still has the GT-40 heads but doesn't know if he's gonna sell them. They would be nice but that would be another $350 and more $$$ to get them rebuilt. I'll stick with my D0OE 351W heads.
They just flow better than the regular heads and have the same compression as my heads. The stock explorer engine is about 9.1:1.
I just tried to take the throttle shaft out of my throttle body but it uses roller bearings unlike the older bushing type ones. So I guess I have to grind the old linkage off with it still attached.

Sounds like it`s worth going after these heads so if you get the chance please check on them.
I do have 69 351/290 hp Cougar engine sitting around, are these heads close to the GT 40`s in performance?
I know the compression on these heads is around 10.7 but figure with the right pistons I should be ok.
Well I didn't save his number and his adds have expired on Kijji. Those Cougar heads are good (C9OE) and are almost as good as the GT-40 ones. They are slightly better than mine as they don't have emission bumps in the exhaust runner. Just you may need hardened seats as mine were made in 1974 which was at the end of the leaded gas.
I can grind the bumps out but then I have to disassemble my heads, then wash and re lubricate everything.
