Hey All -
We have a 2003 Escape, and the light behind the milage and shifter position display is dark. Is this just a bulb that can easily be fixed, or is this somthing that is alot more involved, and I'm better off leaving it be? Thanks
The lamp is a miniature #74. Any auto store should have them. The instrument cluster has two screws in the top. Remove these and pull cluster out towards you. The lamps are in a socket on the back of cluster. Give the socket a 1/4 turn and remove it. The lamp can then be pulled out of the socket and the new lamp put back in. This is a 20 minute fix, very easy. Since that lamp comes on every time the key is on, it is the one to always burn out.
Thanks for the information. I was able to do the job in 25 minutes.
Procedure:
1. Adjust steering column down all the way(this gives you more room).
2. At certain times you will need to insert your ignition key to move the shift lever up or down to get it out of your way.
2. Take out two top screws(I used a 1/4 in socket set with a 9/32 socket).
3. Panel pops out( you need to use something to pry it out near the bottom).
4. Remove four screws - two on top one on bottom (they are the same size).
5. The instrument cluster will now slide out enough to remove the electrical connectors(I used a straight screwdriver to pop them out).
6. Now remove the instrument cluster completely(be gentle).
7. Turn the bulb out about 1/3 turn(this is very tight and will require a needle nose pliers).
8. Replace bulb.
9. Now simply replace everything back (Be careful putting in the screws you don't want to drop them).
Do you have any idea where I can find a socket and bulb to replace my high beam indicator light? I've searched everywhere, even the local Ford dealership doesn't know.
