Has anyone ever had a rim welded?I have an f250 with 35's and one rim has a crack .Its steel and i tried jb weld and it did'nt hold and i dont want to buy new rims.I'm down to carrying a small compressor with me wherever i go now.thanks in advance
The steel rims are common enough that you should find one cheap . There are CO. that will straighten and fix cracks bends . But for a steel rim the cost and saftey with your sized rig isn't worth it.
I'd also go with replacing it. A small crack is simply one that has'nt become a big crack yet, and make no mistake, it will become one. Welding will just be a temporary fix, because once a wheel is compromised, it's only a matter of time before it gives up, and that could be while you are driving down the highway at speed.
Putting it on the rear until you get one to replace it is a great idea, as well. I'd not want a cracked wheel on the steering axle of my trucks.
thanks for the advice, maybe you guys can tell me this ,i got a spare rim from a guy at work.I dont know if it will fit my tire. Its an 8 lug off an older f250,except,it has a tire on it and i cant tell.the tire says17/40/15 Lt and mine is a 15/12.5/35 i.I dont know how to translate that. The tire is alot taller but the rim kinda looks the same....thanks
Something's fishy. Two things: those look similar to tire sizes, but you have the numbers backwards, out of order, and wrong. Try copying them down exactly from the tire. Other thing is that if I'm guessing at those sizes right, you can't have 15" tires on an F-250. They won't fit. Those trucks had 16" or 16.5" wheels.
I would not hesitate to fix it! Steel wheels ain't real hard or they would break rather than bend! Drill a 1/16/1/8th hole at both ends of the crack to prevent further cracking and have it welded for 20 bucks with a mig welder at a shop! Remount and rebalance the tire and RUN IT!

You will need to swap tires but if the rim is off another f250, it will fit no problem, as long as its not a 16.5" rim. You won't be able to put your tire on a 16.5" rim.
I'm not sure about welding them, its usually not worth it for how easy these are to find.
