It was windy at that time, but what it is sounding like if one of the copters lost visual of the other and drifted into it. If you look at the pictures of them just after 15 (Black) is nose down and 3 (white ball) has been chopped up.
A person on the ground says that 3 was in a hover and 15 was moving to a different position, but we will have to wait until the NTSB gives their report.
Aerobatics is such a thin line and sometimes it is crossed. The pilot in Dayton will have been killed due to extreme G loads from the crash.
I am an airshow addict (seen over 50). I always have a nagging fear in the back of my head about these tragedies occurring but have been not witnessed any.
I hear a Blue Angel pilot say, "Our flying is not dangerous, just inherently unforgiving." My prayers go out to all the lost and injured pilots and their families.
I am the same way. You sometime wonder if they push the envelope too much.
Think of the past crashes, other than the P-51’s at Oshkosh most occur coming out of the loop. I remember reading a story where an F-18 pilot did the same thing and hit the ground at the bottom of his loop and they measured the G-load at 38 and were amazed that he lived, but he was two inches shorter.
Remember this crash….Thank God he ejected when he did…
