How would I be able to find out more info on my turbo? If I post some pics is there a way to tell by looking? Also, I usually shift at about 5200- 5500 rpms. Mostly a track car, but I like driving it on the street. It's a five speed, don't know if that matters.
Do I need to run a timing retarder? Also, what injectors and mass air should I get? I plan on running about 10lbs at about 5400rpms max. The car is a five speed. Thanks
This is old school but worth a little thought. Remember when chevrolet built a car called a Corvair? Some of them with the higher output (150/180 HP) engines were turbocharged. No waste gate was used. Turbo boost was limited to around 10 to 12 lbs. by use of a restrictive muffler and carb. This part won't help but timing was set at 24 degrees BTDC and a vacuum/pressure retard was used on the distributor to retard timing to 8 degrees as the turbo spooled up to full boost. I just wanted to pass this on about how pressure was limited way back when...So there are other means to control it. Also with a simple change to a more free flowing muffler, boost would climb to 15 to 18 psi. With that change if you used a 2 barrel Stromberg or weber carb. The little engine would boost itself all over the street. Now remember most non turbocharged corvair engines only made 90 to 110 horsepower from 164 cubic inches. So the idea did work.. Just thinking out loud..
