Hi i have a 97 explorer 2d 4X4 4.0L 120k miles I was driving on the highway and when i got off the exit the truck just died out and wouldn't re-start. i have tried everything, checking the plugs, spark, fuel, battery (NEW) the will turn over but not start after it sits for a few days it tries to starts but dies out right away. i have check the fule by seeing if there was fuel and presure at the fuel presure test point.
any help would be great

if you have spark, it really seems like a fuel issue to me and without a real fuel pressure reading i would lean towards that, do you here the fuel pump running for 2 seconds or so after you turn the ignition to run? as stated above any codes would be helpful.

You going to need to see if there are any codes. Trying to work on a modern car without pulling codes is like a dentist looking for cavities without an x-ray. Yes it can be done, but a x-ray immediately highlights all the problem areas and saves the dentist time and it is more thorough too.

OK, If it has no codes stored, and it has spark, and it won't run with starting fluid, then the timing pretty much has to be off, or you have a large vacuum leak. An engine needs fuel, air, spark, compression, and timing in order to run. If you've confimed fuel and spark, then it goes to air, timing and compression. Compression is usually either a catastrophic failure that makes really bad noises, or a jumped chain. Jumping is not that likely and other failures would usually make it sound really different turning over. Timing is not all that likely without throwing a code, so I'd first search for a bad vacuum leak. Does it try to start if you give it half throttle. Note that full throttle will shut the gas off as the computer treats it as a flooded condition.

If i let it sit for 3 days it go's to start (it firers and dies right away) then it just turns i will try the half way throttle this today and i want to thank everyone for there help in this you all have been a big help
