I believe that the computer can be re-programmed. I also need the steering colum shifter, perhaps a different crossmember and other little parts. There was an article or website for a shop that did these swaps on a regular basis, so I know it is possible.
Seen my signature? it’s been like that forever now!….if you come across any shop that does that please let me know... I 'm trying to get mine converted to Manual.
I like everything about my truck except the automatic trans…for what ever reason I just hate it. Manual trans gives more control if you enjoy driving and I sure do.

Brians Truck Shop or better known as BTS transmissions does a manual to auto swap in house. Why you'd want an auto I dont know but you'll regret it when you get ya a slushbox. Good luck though
Seriously, what in the wide wide world of sports are you doing to the manual transmissions? How are they breaking?
I've seen both gas and PSD owners abuse the bejeezuz out of the ZF trannys and they still go 200K miles without any major issues.
Also, I think you'd find it more cost effective to just trade your truck for one with an automatic. If you are eating ZF trannies at a rapid rate, I wouldn't expect an automatic to hold up to the same abuse.
At around 23k the input shaft broke in two pieces, all of the bearings were either cracked or burned from too much heat. The mechanic said that possibly the factory did not put enough fluid in it from day one. That statement could not be verified from Ford or anybody else. There were never any leaks from the trans or anywhere near it. So the truck was sitting at the shop for two weeks while I sat at home because I cannot pull my work trailer with a Windstar. About 3 weeks after the truck was fixed, another customer came in with a similar problem. He too had a bearing failure and needed a new trans. Long story short, they finally called Ford and found out that after any catastrophic trans failure, the pressure plate must be changed. Mine was never changed thus the second trans is starting to make the same noises that the first one did. More than likely I will need another trans. Sorry for the long post but it felt good to vent.

Steve,
Do you know if they do auto to manual too? I seriously want to get rid of the auto trans ASAP. <O</O
