replacing "93 E4OD

HI Everyone!

I bought a 93 F250XL 4X4 5.8L E4OD with 133K miles last fall. Last month While towing my Wrangler, the Tranny blew front seals and pewked out all the fluid 100 miles from home.

I am installing a remanufactured E4OD that is upgraded to 1997 specs. I remember reading somewhere that I should replace the MLPS and PCM.

The MLPS replacement makes since, going to new style with gaskets. My major concern with the replacement is how to align it. The only thing I have been able to find was a forum blurb that told me to start raised truck and place tranny in reverse. Then I should adjust sensor to center of range that causes the backuip lights to come on. Is this correct?

The PCM replacement confuses me. Can't I just have it reprogrammed? Remember my F250 is a '93. Please help me fill in the blanks so that I have a better understanding of the problems that require an updated PCM.

Thanks for your help!

Bud

I don't know about the sensor, but few people are able to reflash the EEC-IV PCMs. The Prom is not electronically eraseable and should be replaced with an EEPROM or you need to use a hard chip attached to the J3 port. Which is why it's commonly suggested to replace it.
