tire PSI

ok this is kind of a silly question.......my dually has 235/85/16's on it and was just curious as to how much psi i should run in them( the truck is almost always unloaded) I Know how to read the sidewall so dont tell me to. just want to know from someone else's experience with unloaded tire pressures on a dually

Never use the sidewall PSI. That is a max. The ID plate on your driver's side door jam lists your proper psi if the truck has original size tires, which is also listed on the plate. I wouldn't run lower pressure just because you run unloaded. It's just not safe to run higher PSI tires at a lower PSI, like you can get away with on a car.

Cavalier? That ain't no Ford! : )

I always go 10% under max, unless I have a good reason not to. My Mickey Thompson baja belteds were the only tires I went beyond 10% with, even at 18 psi, the truck would bounce from lane to lane (17 psi up front worked best).

Someone posted a while ago a tire manufacturer's "load <--> PSI chart" and that was from 32 to 80 PSI.

With no load, you probably don't need more than 35 - 40 PSI on the rear wheels.

Well the door plate/sticker says stock is 215/75/16. I have 235/85/16's on it. not stock size. I think the max on the tires is 80psi (which i never run the max). Ive had these running at about 70psi, and the tires are still wearing more in the center. Well at least on the duals. Anybody ever run the dual wheel air pressure equalizer thing?

Also i know the cavalier isnt a ford. Its actually my wifes car. The travel trailer isnt a ford either. i just thought the cavalier was ok to list because ive had to tow it a couple of times.

If your tires are wearing more in the center, they are overinflated.

I have a 91 Caravan, I just don't usually tell anyone on here

When I got it, I loved it like no other, but since I've had big vans, the Caravan seems like a junk yard car now. And I'm not too happy with that Mitsubishi engine in it either. Piece-O-Crap!
